Made from an antique Hyakunin Isshu (百人一首) print, a classical Japanese anthology of one hundred Japanese waka by one hundred poets. The design is inspired by the Kariginu 狩衣, a traditional hunting robe that is created from a single length of cloth for the body, and double for the sleeves which are only partially attached. Other than by the upper-class of the Heian period it is now worn at both Shinto and Buddhist rituals and by Noh actors during performances.
